Aviva denies renewed attempts to acquire Prudential

Aviva refused to comment today on market speculation that the company may be preparing a renewed proposition to buy Prudential.

Shares in both companies climbed today as rumours of a possible bid resurfaced but both Aviva and Prudential declined to comment.

Aviva’s original £17bn bid for the Prudential was withdrawn in March this year after the Pru board rejected the proposal.

A Prudential spokesman says: “We don’t comment on rumour and speculation.”
