Aviva axes 82 jobs with Leicester office closure

Aviva is to close its Leicester office, putting 82 jobs at risk of redundancy.

According to union Unite, the jobs will either be transferred to the insurer’s “digital hub” in Perth or one of Aviva’s underwriting teams. It is understood a small team will remain in Leicester. There are currently 116 Aviva staff in the city.

Three jobs are also expected to be cut in London, Unite says.

The jobs under threat are from the insurer’s general insurance arm.

Unite national officer for finance Dominic Hook says: “We have just entered the 45-day consultation period and Unite will be doing all it can to provide maximum support to our members at Aviva at this time of worry and uncertainty for them.”

The redundancies are expected to be completed by 31 December.

Aviva commercial SME director Gareth Hemming says: “As we look to create a commercial digital hub to centralise this activity we will also move to provide a local service to more brokers. Unfortunately these changes will have an impact on some of our people. We appreciate this is a difficult message for our staff and will be working closely with those affected to provide as much support as possible.”
