Aviva appoints Aria Capital’s Tothill as third-party sales head

Aviva Investors has hired James Tothill as head of third-party sales, taking him from DFM firm Aria Capital Management.

Tothill will work with platforms, research houses and intermediaries to build and maintain relationships with the asset manager.

Jeremy Leadsom, head of UK wholesale at Aviva Investors, says the hire will help the manager in its goal to be a global leader in outcome-oriented solutions products.

“A critical element to our success will be our ability to understand and serve the needs of the intermediaries and the third parties that our clients use. James will play a crucial role in ensuring we are delivering on this commitment and we are delighted to welcome him to our team,” he adds.

Aviva has bled funds over many months, and recently launched an asset retention program in a bid to stem outflows.

The asset manager saw £1.6bn of gross sales in the first quarter, but did not reveal details of its net sales, although hinted that redemptions remain high. It did not provide further details of the retention plan.

Tothill was head of strategic partnerships at Aria, before which he was head of global partnerships at Henderson Global Investors.
