Auto acceptance with L&G system

Legal & General has set up an interactive underwriting service on its protection products range which is an addition to the existing online processing system.

The system is designed to be used by advisers when they are in contact with clients either via phone or face to face. It was rolled out to the whole of market on September 10 following a pilot launched in July,

Questions are specifically tailored depending on the respondent’s initial anwers and the system asks fewer questions of those aged under 36 who are applying for life cover.

The company says there are more opportunities for applications to be automatically accepted at point of sale under the new system.

L&G says it is looking at introducing a similar customer-facing interactive system which clients could use to buy life and critical-illness cover direct but would not specify a timescale.

Director of claims and underwriting development Russ Whitworth says: “Our statistics indicate that for a typical adviser, automatic acceptance of cases can be given to over 60 per cent of customers when interactive underwriting is used.”

The savvy consumer
