ASA upholds claims firm complaint over misleading PPI ad

The Advertising Standards Authority has upheld a complaint against a claims management firm for making misleading claims that using a claims firm increases the chance of success.

The ASA has told Harwood Claims Management, trading as ReclaimPPIToday, that claims made on its website must not appear again in their current form.

The ReclaimPPIToday website stated: “You may think you don’t have anything with PPI but if you had a loan, credit card or mortgage at any point over the last 15 years or so there’s a very good chance it had PPI added to it and a very good chance you never even knew.”

It also said: “Using us will mean you use a resource that has experience and a relationship with banks and can recognise a legitimate rejection from a dubious one.”

The ASA says the first claim was “misleading exaggerated” and could not be substantiated.

It says the second claim created the impression that the firm could use its expertise to offer an increased chance of success, which it says the firm could not substantiate.
