ARLA slams Leasehold Reform Bill

The ASSOCIATION of Residential Lettings Agents has criticized the Governments proposed Leasehold Reform Bill which aims to limit leasehold property tenancies to just 5 years.

The Bill, to be announced in the Queens Speech in December, contradicts a statement by a spokesman for housing minister Nick Raynsford at the ARLA Annual Conference last month when long-stay tenancies which run for more than five years were actively encouraged claims the ARLA

ARLA chairman Frances Burkinshaw says: "The long-stay is the solution for investor landlords and a significant proportion of the population who do not wish to be owners."

"Standing in the way of investment landlords with this bill could set back freedom of choice in housing by a decade."
