Aris Vatis to take helm on Fidelity American fund

Fidelity International has appointed Aris Vatis as the new manager of the Fidelity Investments Funds (FIF) American Fund.

Vatis, who joined Fidelity in June 2006, is replacing Jason Weiner, who steps down as fund manager after three years on 1 February 2007 to take on portfolio management responsibilities at the groups US affiliate, Fidelity Management and Research Corp (FMR).

During Weiner’s tenure the £1.45 billion fund has returned 30 per cent and is second quartile over 1 year and first quartile over 3 years.

Fidelity chief investment officer Michael Gordon says: “Aris and Jason will work closely in the next few months to ensure a smooth transition of responsibilities. Aris brings with him a wealth of experience in running both retail and institutional funds and will have the support of the global equity team, as well as access to the ideas of Fidelity’s 800 plus analysts worldwide.”
