Money Marketing and International Money Marketing have teamed up with one of the top international players in capital-protected funds – Scottish Life International – to kick off our own premier league of IFA fund managers' competitions for 2003.
The top prize that is awaiting the winners of the IFA Manager of Managers Competition 2003 and the Best Protected Investment Management Service (PIMS) Return Competition 2003 is a ticket to watch the European Champions League final at Old Trafford, Manchester on May 28, 2003.
In addition, these two winners will be invited to join the competition sponsors and organisers at the League Managers Association annual dinner on May 12, 2003 in Nottingham.
The League Managers' Association comprises all 92 Premier and Football League managers in England, including the leading names in soccer management such as Sir Alex Ferguson of Manchester United and Arsene Wenger of Arsenal. At this event – which will be broadcast on Sky Sports – the LMA Manager of the Year for each of the four soccer divisions will be announced.
As with the soccer professionals, the IFA Manager of Managers Competition 2003 and Best PIMS Return Competition 2003 will be based entirely on performance. Participants must choose a balance of defender, midfield and attack funds from the Select list put forward by the Scottish Life International PIMS/IPIMS Select Fund Managers.
The competition is open to any practising financial adviser around the globe via the internet (see address below). It is entirely up to you, as managers, to choose your squad of funds.
PIMS, the Protected Investment Management Service, is a portfolio service offered by Scottish Life International which enables investors to hold a wide range of savings and investments under one simple product umbrella. You can also make fund substitutions each month for the 17 weeks the competition runs.
All the funds – detailed at www.sli.co.im/championscompetition.htm – are available through the Protected Investment Management Service (PIMS) and International Protected Investment Management Service (IPIMS) portfolio bonds from Scottish Life International and each also carries an unique insurance option.
There will be two league tables of results – one will show the performance of managers in the IFA Manager of Managers Competition 2003 and the second will show the results for managers in the Best PIMS Returns Competition 2003.
By using the PIMS Insurance option, a unique facility of the investment bond from Scottish Life International, competitors can prevent their team of funds from falling into the relegation zone. Attached to the investment bond, PIMS Insurance ensures that, on death, the life assured is not disadvantaged in terms of the capital value.
As well as a ticket for the European Champions league final in May 2003, the top two winners will also win seats at a table at the League Managers' Association end of season dinner. This is the showcase event at which the LMA Manager of the Year award is presented. The event will be televised and shown on Sky Sports.
Pool of funds
The pool of funds will be drawn from the Scottish Life International Select list available in the Protected Investment Management Service (PIMS) and International Protected Investment Management Service (IPIMS).
Each investor must select a team of six funds as follows:
Two defender funds
Two midfield funds
Two attack funds
Each fund has a market price and a discounted price. Due to the purchasing power that IFAs can access though PIMS/ IPIMS, investors will be able to access the funds available at a steeply discounted price.
Investors must use the allocated kitty to select the funds for their team. All positions must be filled at all times and investors are not allowed to overspend at any time.
Investors may make one team change per month by sending an instruction to Scottish Life International before the monthly deadline. Changes will come into effect from the start of the following monthly period.
Information on performance data will be published after the “match”. Further information is available at www.sli.co.im/champions competition.htm and in future editions of Money Marketing and International Money Marketing.
The performance of the funds will be measured by Scottish Life International using Standard & Poor's Micropal workstation system. The basis for the comparison will be bid to bid with net income reinvested, denominated in sterling.
The competitions kick off on December 20, 2002 and end at the full-time whistle at close of play on April 11, 2003.
Entry to the competition is restricted to bona fide independent financial advisers only.
