April rise in UK house prices

UK house prices rose by 0.2 per cent in April according to seasonally adjusted figures from the Halifax House Price Index.

This is the second consecutive rise in the index following a 1.2 per cent increase in March.

Halifax believes the housing market has now recovered from an unsettled winter period and is being driven by the substantial cuts in interest rates since last October.

The lender predicts the market will return to a period of steady sustainable growth, but is not on the brink of a boom.
