Applause for Aifa

Congratulations to the Association of Independent Financial Advisers for winning trade body of the year at the recent Public Affairs News awards.

Director general Chris Cummings and his team chalked up a notable victory for advisers in its lobbying campaign for lower regulatory fees, which led to the fee burden for advisers being reduced by £11.7m.

The trade body has also been working hard behind the scenes to represent the interests of members as part of the retail distribution review.

Aifa has been fairly positive about the FSA’s recent RDR consultation paper pointing to proposals around restricted advice and oral assessments as an alternative to exams.

But we are sure we do not have to tell Aifa there is still plenty of concern about the effect of the RDR on the industry and a lot of hard work still to do.
