Apcims picks new chairman

The Association of Private Client Investment Managers and Stockbrokers has

picked its new chairman.

Capel-Cure Sharpe managing director Mike Jones succeeds Greig Middleton

dep-uty director Michael Read, who has been chairman for three years.

Apcims, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary, has grown from being a

luncheon club to a respected trade body for the stockbroking industry.

It has led the charge for the abolition of stamp duty on shares. But

despite a high-profile campaign, chief executive and former Tory cabinet

minister Angela Knight has been unable to convince the Treasury to rescind

the measure.

Knight says: “The next 10 years will see us looking to the Continent.

Irrespective of anybody&#39s views about Europe, the major decisions of the

coming years will be made in Brussels. We will be there to help ensure the

investment community is heard.”

Read says: “I can think of no one better to take Apcims forward into the

times ahead. I am sure he will find the chairmanship as exciting and as

exhilarating as I have done.”
