Another IFA portal opens with online &#39exhibitions&#39

A new IFA portal is to hit the market under the guise of an online virtual trade show for advisers, offering them conference trips from their desktop.

IFAwebshow.com offers advisers audio-visual presentations, website links to product providers, an interactive IFA-only discussion forum and the opportunity to put questions to an expert panel.

The site, run by City-backed FPL Webshows, hopes to attract traffic by offering comparative company and product information from a single point of access as well as deals on mobile phones and other non-financial products.

FPL Webshows says it is in talks with a number of providers to come on the site as exhibitors. It is also in discussions with networks with a view to offering the site as another member service.

FPL Webshows director, financial services, Iain Boyd says: “IFAwebshow is more than a portal. We are moving away from the pure portal approach and creating a virtual trade show.`

“It is a way to develop business and offer an ongoing source of comparative company and product information in an independent and non-threatening environment.”

Financial Technology Research Centre director Ian McKenna says: “Portals are only going to succeed if they have a clear segment of the IFA community who has to use them. This is a very crowded market.”
