A&L boardroom shuffle

Alliance & Leicester is shaking up its boardroom line-up.

The move sees the return to the board of former Proctor & Gamble executive Michael Allen following his departure18 months ago.

A&L treasurer David Bennett also joins the board following promotion to main board level.

The promotion follows what the bank said was a recognition of the treasury operation&#39s importance having brought in nearly a quarter of A&L&#39s profits in the first half of this year.

A&L acting chief executive John Windeler described Allen&#39s marketing skills as “invaluable” but did not say why Allen had left and returned.
