Akbar, who joins in June 2008, will cover Asian and emerging markets equities. She has a total of nine years investment experience and joins the team from Barclays Wealth.
Akbar’s appointment completes the frontline team for the firm, which suffered a number of losses in 2007, including that of Chris Ralph, Jason Collins and Simon Mungall to Resolution to set up boutique offering Maia Capital.
Under the management of Geraldine Stewart, who covers UK equities within the offering, the group has recently appointed Dermot Whelan and Eugene Philalithis who will run European equities and fixed income respectively.
The team currently stands at 12 with Stewart looking to bring it up to 16 by the end of August.
Stewart says: “Richard Skelt and I have spent some time looking to build a team of this stature and with Ayesha’s appointment I feel we have now brought together a strong frontline offering. We will look to continue adding to our range of products going forward particularly on the institutional side.”
