Aegon UK chief risk officer Charles Garthwaite is leaving the firm at the end of this year.
Subject to final regulatory approval, Jim Ewing, currently chief actuary, will take his place and also become a member of the Aegon insurance company board.
Ewing previously worked in a number of senior finance roles at Lloyds Banking Group and Scottish Widows. Prior to joining Aegon in August 2011, he was Solvency II director for the insurance division at Lloyds.
Aegon UK chief executive Adrian Grace says: “I am very sorry to see Charles leave Aegon. He has been a key player in turning our organisation around, not just in the establishment of a strong and influential risk function, but also with his contributions and energy at Board level.
“With Charles’s help we have seen a dynamic transformation at Aegon UK and this transformation will continue as we move to become a digital business.
“Jim has extensive leadership experience and has the clear expertise to deliver on new demands within our business.
“I’d like to thank Charles for his outstanding contribution to Aegon and wish Jim every success in his new and challenging role.”
Garthwaite says: “The last three years have been an extraordinary challenge and, while I am sad to be leaving Aegon, I believe it is time for a change given Aegon’s transformation plans. We’ve established a clear strategy that will ensure a successful future for Aegon UK.”
