Wilkinson: Will be responsible for leading the insurer’s protection strategy

Aegon UK has appointed Nationwide Building Society head of protection and investments John Wilkinson as protection director.

In his new role, Wilkinson will be responsible for leading the insurer’s protection strategy.

Wilkinson has been head of protection and investments at Nationwide since 2005.

Prior to this, he was chief operating officer at Legal & General and spent three years as head of group partnerships at the Britannic Group.

Wilkinson says: “There is a real commitment from Aegon to grow this part of the business and to deliver simple solutions that will enable customers to easily identify their protection needs and take action to address those needs.”

London & Country sales director Michael Aldridge says: “Aegon has been making noises for a while about how protection is a core part of its strategy going forward and the appointment of a protection director backs this up.”
