Aegon UK’s new protection director John Wilkinson

Aegon UK has appointed John Wilkinson as its protection director.

In his new role, Wilkinson will be responsible for creating the insurer’s protection strategy.

Wilkinson joins from Nationwide Building Society, where he had been head of protection and investments since 2005.

Prior to his time at Nationwide, Wilkinson had been chief operating officer of Legal & General for three years and, before that, he spent three years as head of group partnerships at the Britannic Group.

Aegon UK marketing director Richard Dallas says: “I am delighted that John has agreed to join us. We remain committed to building our UK business focusing on our chosen markets of workplace savings and at-retirement, and our protection business is a core part.

“John’s focus will be on proposition developments and on widening our distribution reach in order to help tackle the growing protection gap.”

Wilkinson says: “Aegon already has a very good protection proposition, offering affordable and competitive solutions for individuals and businesses.

“There is a real commitment to grow this part of the business and to deliver simple solutions that will enable customers to easily identify their protection needs and take action to address those needs.”
