Aegon scraps adviser support website as John Joe McGinley exits

The chief of Aegon’s adviser support team has been made redundant as part of a restructuring at the end of last year that also saw the firm’s adviser support website Business Brain scrapped.

Head of Business Brain John Joe McGinley left Aegon at the end of 2014 as part of a broader reorganisation of how the insurer interacts with advisers.

A spokesman says: “Like any good business we continue to evolve, which means we strengthen in some areas, while rationalising in others. This will, on occasion, lead to changes in staffing needs. This most recent review is part of our ongoing programme for 2014 to better meet the evolving needs of both customers and advisers.

“A small number of staff from different functions left the business at the end of last year. In 2014 the overall headcount increased by more than 150 as the business brought in staff to meet new challenges.”

The spokesman adds that, following the closure of Business Brain, adviser facing services will be provided “through existing channels and also new ones”.

  1. What’s Business Brain? 🙂

  2. You’ve repeated a line… Like any good business we continue to evolve, which means we strengthen in some areas, while rationalising in others

  3. Never knew it existed. However, it is another indication that Aegon does not see adviser distribution as important.

  4. John Joe was great and really passionate about what he did but I never understood how what he did connected to Aegon other than generic promotion of the brand. Seems there is little room for that now.

  5. Last time I had anything to do with this firm they were called Scottish Equitable. Says it all really!

  6. Did not know they had adviser support. Have not heard from any one there for ages

  7. What message does this send AEGON? I had never heard of Mr McGinley until last quarter 2014 when he presented at the PFS regional conferences. A passionate and engaging speaker and much like anybody employed to support advisers like broker consultants, just after we have spent OUR time getting to know them and the support they can provide us and our clients they are GONE. And they wonder why they are haemoraging new business to WRAPs not linked to dinosaur insurers!
