Advisers offered training in employee share plans

Employee share plan organisation Ifs ProShare is offering an introductory course for financial advisers.

It says the two-and-a-half-hour course, which includes Ifs School of Finance CPD credits, will aim to give adv- isers an understanding of the most common types of employee share plans.

Its research shows that around five million UK employees are saving in some form of employee share plan.

Head of employee share ownership Julie Richardson says increasing numbers of workers are recognising the benefits of employee share ownership but there is still a long way to go in terms of financial advice.

She says: “Some employees may not be participating in a plan made available to them through their employer because of a lack of understanding while others may be participating but could be unaware of the options available to them.

“Recent changes to the capital gains tax regime could also have an impact on the tens of thousands of employees who achieve SAYE share plan gains in excess of £9,600.

“Smaller but significant numbers may also be affected by the new non-dom legislation. All these situations demonstrate a need for profess- ional financial advice.”
