Adviser accused of murdering client after fraud discovery

A financial adviser stands accused of murdering a millionaire client after he discovered a £343,000 fraud, a court heard today.

The Daily Mail reports Crown Court evidence claiming 36 year old David Jeffs drove sports cars, dined at fine restaurants and stayed at top hotels using Robert Troyan’s money.

Jeffs is accused of battering 63 year old Troyan in his Mayfair flat after he discovered his adviser’s dishonesty.

The FCA register shows Jeffs worked at HFM Columbus from 2009 to April this year after having previously worked for Carleton Independent Consultants for three years.

Prosecutor Edward Brown QC told the jury: ”This defendant took advantage of a frail and vulnerable man for his own gains over a long period.

”As a result he was able to live the high life but all at the expense of the deceased who, when the defendant first met him, was a rich man.

’He died less rich by hundreds of thousands of pounds thanks to this defendant’s dishonesty.

”When the life to which the defendant happily had become accustomed appeared to him to about to be suddenly coming to an end and that there was a real possibility that his callous acts would soon be found out, he killed him.”

Troyan was found dead on March 8. Jeffs denies murder and fraud by abuse of position.

The trial continues.

But here I am, a full week later, with no deal done. It really does beggar belief. No wonder the Chinese have questioned America’s competence […]

A first-timer’s view of the IFP conference

My introduction to the IFP conference consisted of a bottle opener and an endless stream of marketing emails. The bottle opener was the more memorable of the two, while the emails and my repeated use of the delete key are an ongoing frustration. Event sponsorship is understandable, but I am left wondering what price my […]
