Absolute beginner joins RMB Sicav

RMB MultiManagers has launched a new fund of hedge funds with 66m under management.

The global diversified fund, which is available in dollar, euro and sterling share classes, becomes the sixth alternative strategies fund within the RMB MultiManagers Sicav.

It aims to deliver long-term growth and risk-adjusted returns by investing in funds across a broad range of absolute return strategies.

The fund has a mandate to deliver absolute returns whatever the market conditions and is not benchmarked against a particular index. However, the HFRI fund of fund investable index will be used for reference purposes.

The rationale of the fund is to allocate capital to as broad a range of funds as possible to mitigate the risk of overand underperformance from any particular style.

RMB hopes that by adding equity long/short strategies to its existing global spread capture fund, it will provide a more market-directional tilt to its new fund.

Kohn Cougar partner Jason Evans says: “Because there is little correlation between equities and hedge funds, this is a good opportunity for a client to diversify risk in their portfolio.

“Whereas three years ago everybody had 80 per cent of their portfolio in technology, the trend now is for people to spread risk. While long/short hedgers need volatility to make money, it is best not to have all the client’s eggs in one basket.”
