ABN AMRO selects UK opportunities

ABN AMRO is turning its eye to the UK market, with the introduction of the UK select opportunities fund.

The fund is a unit trust and is aimed at experienced investors who are happy with high levels of risk for their investments.

The fund will invest in a portfolio of up to 50 small to medium sized UK companies with differing degrees of risk. The fund will concentrate on those companies that seem likely to achieve above average returns, such as value and technology stocks, as well as companies that are involved in takeovers and refinancing.

The manager of the fund will be Nigel Thomas, who has been managing the ABN AMRO UK growth fund since it was introduced on December 23, 1986. He also managed the Solus UK special situations from January 1996 until February 2001, thanks to a special agreement between ABN AMRO and Solus.

According to Standard & Poor’s the ABN AMRO UK growth fund is ranked 2 out of 237 funds, based on £1,000 invested on a bid to bid basis with net income reinvested over three years to March 5, 2001.
