ABI/FSA Pensions Calculator website has been down for two months

The Pensions Calculator used by consumers to calculate how much to save to meet expected income demand in retirement, has been down for two months and neither the FSA or ABI can say when it will be running again.

ABI spokesman Jon French says the trade body is looking to fix the calculator as soon as possible but he is unable to give a specific time scale.

The service has been down for the past couple of months. “This is disappointing news and we are trying our hardest to rectify the situation. The FSA holds the codes needed to fix this and until then we are unable to do anything further,” he adds.

He says the temporary closure of the website is due to coding errors and the web firm that hosts the site no longer wants to run the site.

An FSA spokesman says the pension calculator is currently unavailable “due to ongoing work to resolve some technical issues”.

“As a result, we are now planning to undertake a wider review, to decide on the most useful pension planning tool for consumers, and carry out further development and testing before launching a new tool,” he adds.

The spokesman says the regulator will be updating its message on the site to reflect this.

The pensions calculator is co-sponsored by the ABI and the FSA and is accessible through the FSA’s moneymadeclear website and also the BBC website.
