Specialist gay IFA Compass has co-produced a consumer guide with the Association of British Insurers on gay life insurance to explain the effects of the ABI guidelines on HIV and Insurance.
The ABI guidelines were introduced in October 2005 when insurance companies were banned from asking for applicants’ sexual orientation on application forms for life insurance.
The consumer guide contains information about answering questions on application forms for life, income protection and critical illness cover and issues covered include sexual behaviour, sexually transmitted infections, disclosure of sexuality and civil partnerships.
Compass managing director Chris Morgan says: “This consumer guide is another piece of the jigsaw relating to the new HIV & insurance guidelines, introduced last year. It is crucial that there is readily accessible information for gay men applying for Life Assurance products.”
