ABI and BBA end merger talks

The ABI and British Bankers&#39 Association pulled out of merger talks, saying the membership of the two trade bodies informed the board and council they did not wish to see the two unite.

The decision not to go forward ends months of speculation about the future of the two trade bodies.

A statement from the two says given the number and importance of issues affecting their members, it was thought too much time would be wasted by pursuing a merger at this time.
