Aberdeen pulls out of F&C sweepstakes

Aberdeen Asset Management has pulled out of the contest to buy rival fund manager Foreign & Colonial, the Financial Times reports.

The decision leaves Legg Mason, the US based fund manager, as the leading contender to buy F&C.

A combination of the two would have created one of the UK&#39s largest independent fund managers, with Aberdeen heavily tilted towards the retail side and F&C the institutional side.
