Aberdeen finalises property team structure

Aberdeen Asset Management has finalised the layout of its property team following the integration of the recently-acquired Scottish Widows Investment Partnership property team.

Led by Aberdeen global head of property Pertti Vanhanen, the Aberdeen property division will be divided between three main teams: fund management, asset management and transactions and business management.

The fund management team will by led by chief investment officer of property Russell Chaplin and will consist of a team of 28.

They will be supported by a team of six research and strategy professionals in the UK and led by head of global strategy and research Andrew Allen.

The UK transaction team will be led by Rob Cass who joins Aberdeen from Capita. This team will consist of three pforessionals and will be responsible for sourcing and securing deals for clients portfolios.

The integration came as, at the end of June, over 30 former Swip property team members relocated to Aberdeen’s offices in Edinburgh and London.

From 1 October the management of all UK property portfolios will move to a single investment process and investment committee.

This committee will be chaired by head of segregated property mandates Andrew Creighton.

Annual client investment plans will be reviewed by the Investment Strategy Group, comprised of the investment committee and Chaplin.

The following fund managers have been appointed as heads of the firm’s three major client groups: Gerry Ferguson as head of UK pooled property funds, Nick Ireland as head of UK segregated property funds and insurance and Roger Annis as head of UK segregated property funds and pension funds.

Following the integration they will all join the investment committee.
