Abbey fined 800,000 for mishandling mortgage endowment complaints

Abbey has been fined 800,000 by the FSA for mishandling mortgage endowment complaints and misleading the regulator over its complaint handling process.

The FSA found Abbey mishandled around 5,000 complaints- including rejecting 3,500 complaints that should have been upheld- between October 2001 and September 2003.
The regulator says the rejected complaints cost the affected consumers 19m.
