82 IFAs gain new pension certificate

The first group of candidates for the new IFA occupational pension

scheme qualification got their certificates last week.

Eighty-two IFAs passed the new financial adviser certificate in

trustee pensions knowledge exam set up by the Pensions Management

Institute last September. Only four advisers failed the exam.

The qualification is des-igned to allow advisers to demonstrate that

they fully understand the duties and obligations of trustees under

the Pensions Act 1995.

It was developed by the PMI in conjunction with Opra, the ABI, Aifa

and the Chartered Insurance Institute.

Advisers who pass the exam get free membership of the PMI Trustee

Group until the end of the calender year in which they qualify.

PMI president Ian Eggleden says: “Demand for the new certificate has

been high, with many more IFAs due to take the exam in June and

October. We hope that those who have passed will now become

affiliated to the PMI.”

Opra chairman Harriet Maunsell says: “The IFAs who can offer such

in-depth knowledge to their trustee clients will help ensure that

pensions are run effectively, efficiently and to the benefit of

members.”
