&#39Woolwich going back on Open Plan vow&#39

IFAs are accusing the Woolwich of breaking its promise not to try to poach Open Plan mortgage clients for its own IFA arm if they stipulated not to be targeted.

Last week&#39s, Money Marketing revealed how Woolwich was targeting IFA clients with Open Plan mortgages through mailshots with leaflets selling the benefits of Woolwich Independent Financial Advisory Service.

At that time, Woolwich reassured IFAs by claiming that it does not target clients with generic marketing leaflets if they tick the “do not mail” box on Open Plan application forms.

But Plymouth-based IFA G&B Financial Solutions adviser Graham Haffenden is complaining that his clients have received the Wifas promotional leaflet despite ticking the box saying they did not want to be on Woolwich&#39s mailing lists.

Haffenden says: “Despite ticking the &#39do not mail&#39 boxes on Open Plan application forms, I and at least one client have received the promotion in our monthly statements. I would like to know what this means in terms of the Data Protection Act.”

A Woolwich spokeswoman says: “It has never been the intention to mail customers promoting our services when they have asked not to be mailed. We have procedures to ensure this does not happen and will investigate any case brought to our attention.”
