&#39Ideal time to invest in Asia&#39

Asia is the place to invest for anyone looking for long-term benefits, according to Govett Investments.

The company believes the Asian market has hit bottom and now is the ideal time to put money in to reap benefits from the upward climb.

A report from Asian chief investment officer and manager of its Asia Pacific fund Christian Dangerfield says the Far East stockmarkets rebounded sharply in the last quarter of 2001 led by strong performance in Taiwan and Korea.

He says the recovery has been hastened by further US Federal Reserve rate cuts, better than expected US economic data, the collapse of the Taliban in Afghanistan and increased wealth in the Asia region.

Dangerfield says: “The region&#39s economic prospects should be considerably brighter in 2002. However, the regional economies will be vulnerable to external shocks, not least a further deterioration in the ailing Japanese economy and a drastic depreciation in the value of the yen.”
