20,000 want Halifax stakeholder information

More than 20,000 people have signed up for Halifax’s user-friendly guides to stakeholder pensions in the run up to its April 2001 launch.
The quarterly mailshot service, which highlights key issues on savings and retirement in layman’s terms is open to non-members of Halifax.
The service will provide guides on retirement planning including a pensions calculator, information on stakeholder pensions and Halifax’s own stakeholder offering.
Alternatives to pensions such as Isas will be explained and customers will be able to apply for Halifax’s stakeholder through a future mailshot .
Halifax development manager , pensions Nigel Greenwood says: "We found that unsurprisingly most people didn’t have a clue about saving for retirement and they weren’t doing anything about it. The mailshots are to raise people’s awareness and prepare them for the launch of stakeholder. Often it is a lack of understanding rather than people not caring about pensions. People do want to know what is available to them."
