Fidelity appoints Pete Burtonshaw as head of platforms

Fidelity has appointed Pete Burtonshaw as head of platforms, overseeing both FundsNetwork and defined contribution platforms.

Burtonshaw was previously head of technology in India for Fidelity and head of proposition development and will now report to Gary Shaugnessy, UK managing director.

Fidelity has also pledged to double its investment in its platform technology and says it will be adding exchange traded funds, investment trusts and decumulation solutions to the platform by the end of the year.

Burtonshaw joined Fidelity in 2008 and has 25 years’ experience in financial services, having previously worked for JP Morgan, Royal Bank of Scotland and as managing director of Praemium UK.

Earlier this month, Fidelity announced Peter Hicks is moving from head of UK retail sales, where he headed up FundsNetwork, to become product director for UK equities.

Former FundsNetwork head David Dalton-Brown left last October to become head of Barclays Wealth Funds.

Shaughnessy says: “Pensions reform and the retail distribution review provide a backdrop that will make platforms even more central to the market.

“Pete’s experience managing the India technology function and his existing involvement in platform proposition development, as well as his strong market knowledge, make him very well qualified to lead the platforms business during this exciting next phase of development and asset growth.”
