Serious Fraud Office appoints Simon Duckworth as non-exec director

The Serious Fraud Office has appointed Barings targeted return fund chairman Simon Duckworth as non-executive director.

Duckworth, who is also Fidelity European values non-executive director, will take up the post on July 1.

Duckworth is also chairman of both the City of London Police Authority and the National Olympics Security Oversight Group. He has been a member of the City of London Corporation since 2000.

SFO director Richard Alderman says: “I am delighted with Simon’s appointment. He brings to us a wealth of experience both of the City and the business world but also of high level policing and in particular of economic crime. Simon will play a key role in helping us defend the public from becoming victims and in bringing criminals to justice.”
Duckworth says: “I am excited to be joining the SFO’s board at this time. The SFO and the City of London Police are the two primary delivery agencies for the identification, investigation and prosecution of major economic crime in this country, a form of crime that has frequently been underestimated in terms of both complexity and its impact on a huge range of individuals and businesses.

“The opportunity to help both organisations work even more effectively together is a compelling challenge. I have no doubt that closer working will benefit the UK as a whole.”
