UK out of recession

The UK economy has emerged from recession with the latest data showing growth of 0.1 per cent during the last quarter.

The news follows a period of economic contraction lasting six consecutive months – the longest period since records began in 1955.

The UK was one of the last large economies to emerge from recession after France, Germany, Japan and the US came out of recession last year.

  • Talk about limping out of recession. How much have the figures had to be massaged just to show a positive before the budget / election?

  • What a nonsense! Statistically, giving a standard deviation of even + or - 2% this is virtually unmeasurable. And, if it wasn't for the car scrappage scheme the UK still would be in recession. Further, if the next two months are like this one then it would not be a surprise if the UK dipped back into recession for the next 'measurable ' quarter! I think that there was some arm twisting for this declaration to suit electoral purposes!
