PFS launches RDR week

The Personal Finance Society has today launched its RDR action week to help advisers transition to the new RDR requirements.

The week, which has been created in association with Friends Provident, will feature daily webcasts on various RDR proposals and advisers can submit their questions online.

On Tuesday PFS chief executive Fay Goddard, CII business development manager Jim Baylis and CII financial services manager Rebecca Prestage will discuss the process of becoming qualified to QCF level four.

On Wednesday Informed Choice managing director Nick Bamford, FP Advance chief executive Brett Davidson and Bankhall managing director of IFA services David Golder will talk on the topic of adviser charging.

Finally on Thursday Tenet group distribution and development director Keith Richards and Resources Compliance UK managing director Simon Collins will explore labeling and disclosure.

PFS chief executive Fay Goddard says: “We know that many advisers still have questions that remain unanswered about the best way to achieve the requirements of the RDR. Time is running out and it is becoming ever more important that advisers start making concrete plans to ensure survival post 2012.

“As much as the implementation of the RDR is causing many of those in the market extra effort it is important to focus on how the outcome will enhance the reputation of our profession.”

  • Are there simpler, more constructive, and more importantly more cost effective ways of raising standards across all distribution models over the longer term which would avoid creating one elitist 'independent' advice channel?

Is it possible for the regulated and their regulator to work together in order to achieve many of the laudable aims of the RDR?

Is it possible to maintain the rich diversity of advice channels in investements, insurance and mortgages without the creation of a single professional body and the resulting requirement to achieve the qualifications it prescribes?

Could the successful concept of peer groups be expanded to encourage firms to work together in order to improve the service available to consumers while satisfying the requirements of the regulator?

In my capacity as a consultant I am carrying out some research for those who are interested in balanced regulation working alongside a fully functioning and comprehensive advice sector so please call me on 01341 242625, no ranting please, those days are over for me and I encourage all others to follow my lead.
