No guarantee on FSSC licence decision

The UK Commission for Employment and Skills says it will meet with the Financial Services Skills Council at the end of January to consider its bid for relicensing but warned that a final decision is not guaranteed by this time.
In May, the FSSC was denied a new licence by the Government because it failed to meet the required standards.
The Government extended the FSSC’s existing licence to allow an independent strategic review. The council made its submission for relicencing on September 30.
The UKCES told Money Marketing that the meeting will take place later this month but no final decision is guaranteed by the end of January.
Spokeswoman Alex Curling says: “We are meeting at the end of this month with the Financial Services Skills Council but we are not promising that there will be a decision at that point.”
Last month, the Government denied a new licence for the skills council for the fashion and textiles sector, Skillfast-UK, following advice from UKCES.
FSSC chairman Roy Leighton says: “This is another opportunity for us to highlight our valuable initiatives. We will also update the commission on steady progress towards the reshaped Skills Council model.”
Last October, all 37 staff at the FSSC were put on 30-day consultation notice.
An FSSC spokeswoman did not give any details of the outcome of the consultation, saying that the process has not yet been completed.
