BUDGET 2010: One third of civil service to move out of London

The Chancellor has revealed that a third of civil servants will be moved out of London, including the Ministry of Justice, in a bid to cut costs.

what is good enough for the ministry of justice should be good enough for the fsa.

... is that the third of Civil Servants who will be 'culled' anyway as part of cost cutting??
Or could the third include the Treasury (and poss. also FSA??)... and move them to the Isle of Mull ... just a thought ...

Exactly. Despite Hector Sants' claims to the contrary, the FSA IS a public sector body (fsa.gov.uk) and three quarters of its staff should be located to a vastly less expensive office complex outside London. On what grounds might the FSA reasonably object to such a fundamental economy? None, of course. It'll simply refuse to comment.
The only way in which the FSA isn't a public sector body is the way in which it raises its budget (and it can't even manage to work within that) and what it pays its staff and directors.

It will be good to see the FSA willingly following this excellent initiative from the government they clearly admire. There is some very cheap office accommodation on the Isle of Wight

Even better, chop 1/3rd of them and stop the final salary pension scheme for future benefits!

Why is it, that whilst everyone else is expected to tighten their belts and undergo cost cutting exercises, the fsa continues to increase its staffing levels, its budget,and maintains a very expensive pension scheme?
Why must it operate from one of the most expensive addresses in the uk?
The fsa needs to show some accountability to those that are required to fund it.
In a year when I have been unable to fund my own pension due to avoiding staff redundancies, I strongly object to paying for someone else to retire on an above average pension.
