Protection chief Beynon leaving Aegon
Aegon head of individual protection sales and distribution development Alun Beynon is leaving Aegon to look at other opportunities in the UK protection market.
Beynon will be leaving the company on December 3.
He was part of the senior management team that launched Aegon’s individual protection proposition in the UK in 2001 following its acquisition of Guardian’s life and pensions operation in 1999.
The individual protection team will now report to director of partnership sales Andy Rowson.
Beynon says: “I am enormously proud of what Aegon has achieved over the last 10 years and have no doubt it will continue to play an important role in the development and provision of protection solutions in the future.
“I will be looking at further opportunities to make a positive impact in the UK protection market.”
Master Adviser senior partner Roy McLoughlin says: “It is a great loss for such a progressive company as Aegon. Alun showed a refreshing attitude to the importance that protection should play as an intrinsic part of financial planning.”
CBK Colchester director Peter Chadborn says: “It is a shame for Aegon because Alun was clearly passionate about protection and he achieved a lot during his time there.”
Highclere Financial Services partner Alan Lakey says: “Alun seemed an eminently sensible guy who knew what he was talking about.”
Lakey believes Aegon is one of several insurers that appears to have lost its direction.
He says: “There does not seem to be a commitment to the market, although Aegon will say that commitment is there as they have announced they are staying in the UK. But it is not clear whether Aegon is staying in the market to do something or whether it is simply because the company has no other option.”
