Income protection taskforce sets up adviser roadshows

The Income Protection Task Force is running roadshows across the UK from next month.

The roadshows, which are designed to educate advisers on the need for income protection, are being hosted by 17 insurers and reinsurers, with the first taking place on April 28 in Glasgow. Other roadshow dates include Edinburgh on April 29 and Bristol on May 12.

Aifa director general Chris Cummings is supporting the IPTF’s efforts to raise the profile of protection. He says: “IP is a valuable but under-used part of holistic financial advice. People look to their IFA to help them navigate stormy seas. IP can provide a safe harbour in the midst of financial turmoil.”

IPTF co-chairman Clive Waller says: “As our industry becomes a profession, advisers will need to ensure that their clients are protected against unforeseen events such as long-term illness.”

Master Adviser IFA Roy McLoughlin says: “I hope the roadshows will facilitate a discussion about advisers’ perceptions of their clients’ IP needs, in particular, raising the question of how long their employers will provide them with sick pay.”
