Health Insurance Counter Fraud Group to launch fraud qualification

The Health Insurance Counter Fraud Group is to launch the first university-accredited qualification in healthcare fraud investigation.

The qualification, due to launch this year, will include all the standard fraud investigator training plus additional modules relevant to health.

The news comes after the HICFG extends  its membership to include cash plan providers. The extension follows recent concerns about fraud in cash plans.

All cash plan providers in the UK will have access to the group’s resources, including a database of known fraudsters, an on-line system which delivers real-time alerts about current frauds and a forum in which to share tradecraft and make enquiries for information from other companies.

HICFG chairman Dr Simon Peck says: “I am delighted to announce this development. We believe there is significant cross-over between the problems experienced by cash plan providers and those we see in private medical insurance and this is a great opportunity to pool our resources in a way which will benefit all of us.”
