Canada Life launches group CI policy

Canada Life has introduced a group critical illness policy offering scheme members a range of support services such as Red Arc and Best Doctors.

Both services come as part of the policy.

Red Arc provides practical and emotional support to scheme members and their family at the point of claim. A personal nurse adviser will visit the family to discuss areas where further support might be needed such as home visits, therapy or counselling.

Best Doctors offers members a second medical opinion on serious health conditions to ensure their diagnosis and treatment is correct or alternatively recommend other courses of treatment.

The Best Doctors service is effectively available to all employees and their families, as members do not need to claim in order to take up the benefit.

The policy also includes a claims helpline to talk claimants through the claims form and the general claims process.

The provider has also increased its maximum free cover limit to £500,000 and reduced the survival period to 14 days.

Sales and marketing director Paul Avis says: “Advances in medical science mean that more people are surviving being diagnosed with a critical illness. One of the key messages with this product is that some of these conditions will be life-threatening, but not life-ending.

“This product aims to provide life support when you live, to give members support through the process from the moment the claim is submitted.”

He adds: “Instead of launching a traditional insurance product, we have wrapped it up with many value-added features so that people will buy it as much for those value features as for the financial aspect.”

Canada Life is allowing quotes from October 1 with scheme members going on risk on January 1 2011.

Current policyholders will stay on their current terms and conditions with terms changed at their rate review.

If current policyholders have a claimant they will be issued with the new claim and will be offered Best Doctors and Red Arc from January 1 next year.
