Baigrie and ABI link up to promote protection
Lifesearch managing director Tom Baigrie is working with the Association of British Insurers on its new drive to help raise consumer awareness of protection needs.
ABI protection strategy committee chairman and Aviva protection director Richard Verdin says Baigrie, who spearheaded the consumer protection and insurance engagement campaign, has agreed to help steer the work stream looking at consumer engagement.
Last month, Money Marketing revealed that the ABI committee is taking up the reins from the CPIEC but the trade body’s drive will not feature a media campaign.
Verdin says: “The committee is making progress. We are organising ABI committee members into three work streams focusing on building a resilient society, consumer engagement, and speeding up claims.
“On each strand we want an intermediary and Tom has agreed to help steer the work stream looking at consumer engagement.
“Although it is an ABI strategy committee, we understand the value of getting distributors and intermediaries involved.”
Verdin says the work stream, which will also include insurers and reinsurers, will work with the FSA, the Government and the industry to find ways of closing the £2.3trn protection gap.
Baigrie says: “I am deligh-ted to be helping the ABI and looking forward to driving the cause of protection forward with them.”
