Aviva overhauls large case underwriting process

Aviva has overhauled its large case underwriting processes to allow advisers to provide information over the phone for life cases up to £3m and for critical illness cases up to £750,000.

The firm has also increased the limits at which it needs information beyond a financial questionnaire.

For life cases over £1m and up to £3m, Aviva only requires a financial questionnaire, while applications above £3m no longer need to be countersigned. Instead applicants will be asked to provide evidence such as a P60 or loan letter.

Aviva has also raised its non-medical limits for life and critical illness cover across a range of age and sums assured.

Aviva chief underwriter Robert Morrison says: “We know how important a speedy decision is for both advisers and their clients, and we are constantly looking for ways to improve our customer journeys. Large case underwriting is - by its nature - more involved than insuring smaller sums, so we are keen to make the process as streamlined as possible.”
