Advisers find it hard to lobby Government
Lifesearch believes that protection advisers and distributors struggle to access the Government when lobbying about protection issues.
Speaking during a panel session on politics and protection at the annual Protection Review conference in London last week, Lifesearch managing director Tom Baigrie said that while providers have channels available to them to lobby the Government, advisers do not enjoy the same access.
He said: “The industry finds it difficult to represent itself properly to the Treasury and the Government other than through the provider side through the Association of British Insurers. The people in the industry who should know the consumers best are the people that work with them - the advisers and the distributors.”
Baigrie said advisers have typically had a poor level of engagement with the Government for several years.
He added: “Without the representation of distributors and customer-facing people, I worry the great powers will forget the broking industry.”
