Line-up of new Treasury select committee revealed

The new members of the Treasury select committee have now been appointed ahead of a hearing with Office for Budget Responsibility chairman Sir Alan Budd this morning.

Joining newly elected chairman Andrew Tyrie will be five other previous committee members - Tory MP Michael Fallon, Labour MPs Andy Love, John Mann and George Mudie, and Liberal Democrat MP John Thurso.

New Labour MPs that will sit on the committee include MP for Streatham Chuka Umunna and MP for Leyton and Wanstead John Cryer.

The Conservatives have four new members - Andrea Leadsom, Jesse Norman, David Rutley and Mark Garnier - bringing the total of Tories on the committee to six.

Scottish National Party for Dundee East Stewart Hosie completes the 13-strong committee.

Chairman of the OBR Sir Alan Budd is to appear before the newly appointed committee this morning and is expected to defend the independence of the forecasting body set up by Chancellor George Osborne.

It comes after the OBR’s independence from Government was called into question as it emerged that the forecast for public sector job losses had been cut ahead of the emergency Budget.

  • Will this 'new' committee have a bite to go with their bark or will they just be another talking shop which produces no significant change for the better ??

  • Hopefully, with good men like Andrew Tyrie and Michael Fallon we will see some changes.
Andrew Tyrie in particular, understands how expensive and ineffectual the FSA has been.

  • Mark Garnier is a 1st class supporter of the IFA cause and part hosted a group meeting of IFAs who voiced their concerns over the decimation of IFA post 2012! Andrew Tyrie also helped produce the Leviathan At Large which was very critical of the FSA. All it all good people are being promoted to positions of power and authority and the days of the FSA dominance and abuse are abaout to be checked. The future is geeting a little better with each of these small steps. At all times we must make it clear that we are not anti regulation we are anti abuse of power and human rights. We must remind the consumer that the FSA has failed them time and time again and we must not allow this unelected quasi judicail quango to conduct their final act of vandalism (RDR)which will kill off the true consumer champion - the IFA.
