Saga draws up demanding manifesto for government

Saga has drawn up a manifesto to be presented to all political parties in the UK outlining key changes to help those over 50.
The manifesto outlines six demands which Saga wishes to push through government in a bid to create a fairer society for the over 50s, including an end to the compulsory retirement age.
Demands include the abolition of ageism, greater retirement flexibility and fairer finances for those who have made regular contributions through tax.
The manifesto says its demand for fairer finances includes the continuation of current benefits and allowances targeted at older people, the abolition of dividend taxation and basic-rate taxation of interest for the over-65s and for employers recruiting people aged 60 or above to be freed from their National Insurance contributions. Saga says there should also be a flat-rate state pension for all UK residents, without means testing.
Other demands include more support for carers so that older people can stay in their own home for longer and an age balance in parliament by appointing more “older people with experience of business and life in general”, says Saga.
Saga’s sixth demand is for better and safer streets.
