Friends Provident MD Simon Clamp dies
Friends Provident managing director of UK business Simon Clamp has died following a short illness.

Clamp, 51, who stepped down from his role due to serious health earlier this month, passed away in the early hours of this morning.
A statement released by Friends Provident today says Clamp’s contribution to the firm was significant as a highly regarded member of the executive team and an influential and well-respected industry figure.
Friends Provident chief executive Trevor Matthews says: “The speed at which Simon’s health deteriorated has come as a complete shock to us all.
“He was a terrific colleague, valued member of my management team as well as a personal friend of mine and we will miss him greatly. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife Sheila and son Freddie at this sad time.”
Sesame Bankhall Group executive chairman Ivan Martin says: “There are very few people in our industry who didn’t know Simon. I was privileged to know him for many years. He represented all that is valued in our business, honesty and integrity personified. Simon will be sorely missed by all of us who knew him and he will be remembered with deep fondness and affection.”
Association of British Insurers director of life and savings Maggie Craig says: “Simon will be greatly missed by all who knew him throughout the industry on both a personal and a professional level. He made an outstanding contribution to the industry, most recently with his work on the retail distribution review, and he did it all with great humility and a sense of humour. Our deepest sympathies go out to Simon’s family at this incredibly difficult time.”
Earlier this month, Friends Provident appointed Nathan Moss as UK managing director to replace Clamp on an interim basis.

What dreadful news. Always a pleasure to work with Simon in our ScotEq/AEGON days and on industry matters when at FP. Thoughts with Sheila and Freddie tonight.

I met Simon when I started work as a humble Receptionist at Scottish Life Ass Co in Poultry.
My life changed and with Simon's help, I gained the confidence to make new friends take control of my life financially.
Thank you Simon
