Friends appoints merger integration specialist to board

Friends Provident has appointed former Deloitte & Touche merger integration specialist Belinda Richards as an independent director of Friends Provident Holdings and Friends Provident Group.

The insurer has also taken on Karl Sternberg as an independent director.

Richards is currently vice chairman of Deloitte & Touche, where she was a senior corporate finance partner for 10 years. She held the position of global head of merger integration and separation advisory services before retiring earlier this month.

Sternberg is currently a non-executive director at JP Morgan Income & Growth Trust plc and Whitbread Pension Trustees and has previously held a number of chief investment officer posts at Morgan Grenfell/ Deutsche Asset Management. He is a founding partner of Oxford Investment Partners Limited and director of Lowland Investment Company.

Friends Provident Holdings chairman Sir Malcolm Williamson says: “I am delighted to welcome Karl and Belinda to the board. They bring a wealth of financial services experience to the table.

“Their proven track record and experience will be invaluable to Friends Provident and the execution of Resolution’s consolidation strategy for the life industry. We very much look forward to working with them.”
