Cleri Med managing director John Van Der Wielen to leave
Managing director of Clerical Medical and Halifax Life John Van Der Wielen is to leave Lloyds Banking Group later this year.
Van Der Wielen is to return to Australia later this year, following a restructure within Lloyds.
Lloyds managing director of general insurance Phil Loney will become managing director of life, pensions and investments business across Scottish Widows and Clerical Medical.
Scottish Widows managing director Andy Briggs has become managing director of general insurance.
Following the merger with HBOS it was expected that either Briggs or Van Der Wielen would leave the firm.
On Friday, Lloyds also revealed that managing director of mortgages Dan Watkins will be stepping down from his role.
Watkins, previously chief executive of retail products at HBOS, will be leaving the bank to pursue other opportunities.
He took up the role at the beginning of 2009. In the interim, operations director of mortgages Mike Kula will act as head of mortgages.
Wealth and international director Jo Dawson has also decided to pursue other opportunities outside the company and will leave at the end of the month.
Dawson was previously head of risk at HBOS and had replaced whistleblower Paul Moore. Wholesale group executive director Truett Tate will take on Dawson’s responsibilities.

Bizarre moves - swapping Briggs with Loney - does that make sense & getting rid of Van Der Wielen - does this mark the begining of the end of CM & SW?

Bizarre moves? Bizarre company. What makes sense in this outfit? Nothing!
See that Dawson didn't fit in. She was riding the crest till she got to the Lloyds Group HQ then BANG!

No wonder the FSA is having a field day with the selling of 'Life and Investment' contracts. What is the sense of putting a 'General Insurance' person in charge of 'Life' business? It's almost akin to a mechanic becoming a brain surgeon!! The two are poles apart. (Never did like SW anyway).

It's only a matter of time before Clerical Medical loses any residual identity as an IFA-orientated office (their service has been rubbish for years) and becomes subsumed into Scottish Widows, whose products seem to be sold almost exclusively by tied agents operating at branches of Lloyds TSB. Another step towards bank domination of product distribution. But the advice sector will survive, somehow or other.

John VanderWielen was the best thing that ever happened to your company, letting him leave is a huge mistake.
